ALSO MONTESSORI MODULES AVAILABLE SUBJECT TO DEMAND

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a one year course which is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of those currently working in childcare and who wish to progress to a supervisory management position. The course also suits those working at management level who are looking for professional development .

Students wishing to take up employment in Montessori pre-schools will be offered the chance to study additional modules.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entrants should have completed a Fetac level 5 award in childcare or equivalent. Working knowledge in childcare is desirable. Suitably qualified entrants will be asked to attend an interview.

COURSE CONTENT

The following modules are currently being offered.

child development
social and legal issues in childcare
early childhood programmes
supervision in childcare

plus two additional modules carried forward a specified list of level 5 modules

Montessori modules will also be offered subject to demand

FEES

A registration fee of 200 Euros is payable by all entrants to plc courses in Ireland. Those with a medical card or a maintenance grant do not have to pay this registration fee. Maintenance grants or Back to Education allowances are available for eligible students

WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience is an integral element of this course as this is a work based programme. Participants are required to attend work experience one day every week in a relevant vocational setting.

COURSE CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of this course participants will be awarded a FETAC Level 6 certificate. Course assessment is based on a mixture of continuous assessment and examination.

Those who have studied Montessori modules will receive an additional component certificate

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

FETAC certification is a nationally recognised Award. Successful participants can apply for employment in a variety childcare settings
Those with Montessori modules will find employment opportunites in the Montessori pre-schools.

FURTHER EDUCATION AND HIGHER EDUCATION LINKS SCHEME

Participants can progress from this course to Institutes of Technology and to Universities via higher education links scheme on obtaining a full award.
